Events and activities
Our Facebook pages keep our users up to date with activities and events.
We provide a variety of activities whilst supporting and promoting independence and life skills. Activities include:
Shropshire Wild Teams
The 'Shropshire Wild Teams' are countryside conservation volunteer teams involved in tasks such as habitat management, ground clearance, hedgelaying or stile/gate installation. They also try out other activities such as walking, basic map reading, bush craft skills and wildlife surveys. The programme uses Shropshire’s abundance of natural environments to promote physical activity and wellbeing.
The Wild Teams project is now offering four sessions (once a week) for people using Shropshire’s adult community care day centres. The project will rotate between day centres on request. Along with the Wild Teams' regular tasks other activities will be available based on preference and appropriateness for participants. These, for example, can include creative and woodland camp craft sessions. Day centre staff will also attend on the ground.
Referrals into the Wild Team sessions will be made via day centre staff.

Gardening
Gardening encourages fitness, outdoor activities, creativity, health and wellbeing. In 2019 service users and staff created a sensory garden which provides a relaxing and sensory environment. Our outdoor space provides scope for further development. A vegetable growing area is underway in partnership with LovelyLand and the Allotment Guy.
Signing for fun group
Encourages all users and staff to use Makaton signs. This is combined with activities such as various games and singing to make learning fun.
Shop and cook
Our shop and cook group takes place jointly at Abbots Wood. Our kitchen at Albert Road is convenient for baking.
Social groups
We're situated within walking distance of local amenities and access via public transport to Shrewsbury town, so service users can support local businesses and places of interest such as churches and museums. Local shops, pubs and cafes are within walking distance from Albert Road. This provides training for using public transport, money skills, road safety skills and social awareness.
Digital activities
We have tablets available for use and are looking to develop our digital services.
Photography
This is combined with a range of activities, indoors and outdoors to develop service users’ photography skills and to display their work.
Fitness and exercise
There's a fitness bike and treadmill available for use at Albert Road for service users to work on their fitness. Also, the Shrewsbury Sports Village is close to Albert Road, providing further opportunity to engage in the community.
Creative storytelling
The library at The Lantern is used to borrow 'talking books' and 'memory books', providing more creative ways of engaging with the storytelling. Service users join the walking for health group from The Lantern.
Annual and summertime events
Halloween party, BBQ, fishing, birdwatching, outings, celebration events and fundraising activities.
Building-based activities
Enjoyed by all, mainly during the winter months. We offer a range of activities within the building – art and craft, embroidery, use of exercise bike/cross trainer, relaxation, music, Makachat, games, local walk, reminiscence, recycling, all aimed at enabling creativity and maintaining health and wellbeing.
