Community based opportunities
Shropshire Council’s Social Care, Peoples’ Directorate believe that all individuals should live in an inclusive society where opportunities like leisure, entertainment, pursuing hobbies, developing skills, developing friendships, volunteering and employment are accessible to all, irrespective of their care and support needs.
Everyone should have the opportunity to feel part of their community and to lead a meaningful and purposeful life in the way that they choose to do so. Some people will require varying levels of support to lead the life they want to live. Day Opportunities (and Day Services) provision plays a key role in working with individuals to deliver the following vision:
“People who live with learning disabilities and autistic people with or without learning disability are supported to have choice and control over their lives. To be independent, healthy and safe, with the same opportunities and outcomes as everyone else.” Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Learning Disability and Autism Programme
There is strong evidence that day opportunities within local communities are valued by the people who are supported and that they improve wellbeing and quality of life. We have compiled a document containing a list of possible opportunities for people, some are council funded and run, some are simply pay as you go clubs or voluntary opportunities. This document is a simple starting point, that gathers together some of the support opportunities available. For more information regarding services listed on this document do contact them directly and/or look them up on Facebook and via their websites.
