Benefits and financial support if you're caring for someone
As a carer you may be eligible for certain benefits and entitlements, such as:
- Carer’s allowance - if you care for someone for at least 35 hours a week. This is money to help you look after someone who needs to be cared for
- Carer’s credit - if you care for someone for at least 20 hours a week. This is a national insurance credit that helps fill the gaps in your national insurance record so that you get a better state pension
- Pension credit - an income-related benefit for pensioners on a low income
- Universal credit - a monthly payment to help with your living costs
- Attendance allowance - a benefit to help pay for extra costs for pensioners with a disability
