I was born and have lived in Shrewsbury all my life. I was educated at Wakeman School (now sadly departed) and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College. I worked for many years in the Civil Service, then had a small career break where I resumed a childhood love of photography.
In 2012 I became a volunteer at British Red Cross and was given the opportunity to move into their Young Carers service, and have been supporting young carers ever since.
I don’t do much photography these days, as a lot of it was propping up the stage at local rock gigs, but I’m still passionate about music and do the odd photo for Instagram if the mood takes me.
When I was in my teens, my sister had cancer and so I can empathise with young people who care for other family members or who are impacted by their illness. I enjoy finding opportunities to provide support and respite to young people.
Young carers are incredibly special young people and deserve far more recognition.
