Document copy requests

Building control records

Building control records aren't publicly available, but the owner of a property or a solicitor acting on behalf of a sale can request copies of certain records (completion certificates or approvals).

Our records start from 2009 and are retained for 15 years. We're unable to sign off applications which started before 2009, or those that were inspected more than five years ago.

This is a chargeable service - please refer to our statutory fees for the cost

Please note that we're unable to provide certificates issued by registered building control approvers (building control from the private sector) or commissioning certificates issued via the competent person scheme.

Frequently asked questions

What if the application hasn’t been signed off?

If the building control application hasn’t been signed off (ie showing online as 'building works started’) and the works are completed, please email us with your request along with any outstanding information to accelerate the process. Please note, an additional charge may apply for a completion inspection made three years from the date of your last inspection.

How do I view the records relating to drainage on my property?

We don't hold any drainage information - please contact your water provider for this.
