Climate strategy and action plan

Our vision

Shropshire Council, as an organisation, aims to become carbon net-neutral by 2030 and help the whole region achieve the same goal.

Climate emergency declaration

We declared a climate emergency in May 2019 and set a strategy framework in December 2019 to reach net-zero corporate carbon performance by 2030.

Strategy and action plan

In December 2020, we adopted a new Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan. This outlines how we'll reduce our carbon footprint and adapt our services to be more resilient to extreme weather.

Financial benefits

Reducing our carbon footprint and adapting to extreme weather will cut financial risks and save public money in the long run. We'll lead by example and encourage other organizations to join us in tackling the climate emergency.

Community engagement

Our strategy was developed with input from community engagement and in-house expertise. It includes the best info on our carbon emissions and identifies actions needed to reach net-zero by 2030.
