To qualify for a reduction, the disabled person:

  • Can be an adult or a child
  • Is substantially or permanently disabled
  • Must live at the property

In addition, your home must have at least one of the following:

  • An additional room (not a bathroom, kitchen or lavatory), which is predominantly used by the disabled person and is required to meet their needs
  • Sufficient floor space for the disabled person to use a wheelchair

The property must contain certain features that are "essential or of major importance" to the wellbeing of the person living in the dwelling because of the nature of their disability.

We'll need to visit your home before we make a decision.

Disabled band reduction review

Periodically the Council has to take reasonable steps to ensure that reductions continue to be awarded correctly.

This means that you have to confirm your circumstances are the same if you wish to continue to claim the reduction.
