The Shropshire Family Information Service (FIS) has an online directory of organisations and services that offer support for children, young people and families. It also has a list of clubs and activities for children and young people. 01743 254400.

Shropshire Council Early Help

  • Shropshire Council Early Help provides information and advice for young people, families, and professionals. 0345 678 9021 
  • Early help means taking action to support a child, young person or their family as soon as there is a problem. Help can be given at any time in a child's life, from pre-birth to adulthood

First Point Of Contact

Parents and carers can ring First Point Of Contact (FPOC) for general advice and/or support. 0345 678 9021.

Financial insecurity

Tax-free childcare

You can get up to £500 every three months (up to £2,000 a year) for each of your children to help with the costs of childcare. This goes up to £1,000 every three months if a child is disabled (up to £4,000 a year).

Public Health Nursing Service

This service is available to all parents, carers and children from ages 0-19 and 25 years for SEND. Health visitors, school nurses, family nurses and skilled practitioners deliver the Healthy Child Programme universally to families, which includes support for child health and development.

Parents and young people can self-refer into the service using the dedicated single point of access (SPOA) phone number or by texting. Social prescribing

Social prescribing is a non-medical approach to helping you feel better and find out what matters to you.  If you would like to feel happier, make friends where you live, try something new or get fitter one of our team can help you. Children and young people’s social prescribing is available for those in school year 7 and above up to age 18, across the whole of Shropshire.

Call 0345 678 9028 and select the self-referral to Social Prescribing option. You can ask for a referral at your GP Practice too.

Speech and language therapy advice lines

The children's Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) service in Shropshire provides assessment and treatment of speech, language, communication and/or eating, drinking and swallowing needs for children and young people from birth to 16 years old (or to 19 years if in full time education). 01743 450800 (option 4).

Support with young people's emotional wellbeing

BeeU is Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin’s Children and Families Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service for people aged up to 25. The service is offered by different organisations, making sure children and young people and their families get the right help.These services include:

Support for adult mental health

  • NHS Talking Therapies, for anxiety and depression, can support people with mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety or low mood. Self-referrals available into every service. Call 0300 123 6020
  • Shropshire Council wellbeing pages
  • Shropshire Mental Health Support (previously MIND) - provides support for any person with emotional or mental health needs. Call 01743 368647
  • TogetherAll – free online support for Shropshire residents aged 16 and above who are stressed, anxious or feeling low. The service has an active forum with round-the-clock support from trained professionals. You can talk anonymously and confidentially to other members 
  • NHS Access Team - Call 0808 1964501 Option 1. Access is a Freephone service. The Access team helps people with mental health issues get the right help
