Where can I look for a job?
The main places to look when you're looking for a job are:
Websites
The most useful websites to search for local job vacancies are:
Once you're on the page, click ‘start now’ and search for the location you would like to work in. You'll see all the jobs available in the area you've chosen. If you are interested in a particular job, you can read more details including how to apply for it - www.Indeed.com
Indeed lists up to date information about vacancies in your area
Be aware that when you search for jobs on Indeed and govuk/find a job, you will be applying for jobs alongside older and possibly more experienced people.
When you apply for an apprenticeship, you'll usually be applying alongside other 16, 17 and 18 year olds and the employer will not be looking for prior experience so it is a far a more level playing field.
An apprenticeship allows you to work with an employer for three or four days a week, on the other day(s) you'll be at college or with a training provider for training. At the end of your training, you'll receive a qualification, often an NVQ. You'll receive a salary that may be paid weekly or monthly
You can search the gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship website without registering but if you want to apply for an apprenticeship then you'll need to register. Make sure you write down your user name and password and keep it somewhere safe, as it is really easy to forget them. It's best to search for “all jobs” in your area rather than filtering for specific jobs
Newspapers
Some newspapers do still have some jobs advertised in them. The Shropshire Star has a jobs section for all local job vacancies every Thursday.
