Sustainable travel toolkits

At Shropshire Council we want to enable children to arrive at and leave their school safely. This is hampered by dangerous, illegal and inconsiderate parking, parked cars with engines running and traffic speeding on school routes and streetsWe also want to encourage families to consider their journeys to schools and where possible increase their walking / wheeling.

We offer free road safety education to all Shropshire primary schools, with appropriate resources for the different school years. Contact us to find out more.

We work with Modeshift, which works to ensure that every school in England can participate in Modeshift STARS accreditation for free. On completion, schools will automatically have a brand new national standard school travel plan.

Welcome from Cllr Kirstie Hurst-Knight, portfolio holder for children and education:

"Our Schools Sustainable Travel team will be working directly with you to promote active and sustainable travel to and from schools. I am passionate about keeping our children safe on their journey to and from school, and to encourage healthier and more active lifestyles. These toolkits are the first port of call when you have a school travel or safety concern, giving ideas and resources to help tackle these problems. You'll find guidance for parking, neighbour complaints, encouraging walking and wheeling and improving air quality.

All of our Shropshire schools are registered with Modeshift STARS, and our team will help you to attain accreditation for acknowledging travel planning and the initiatives you engage with.

As a porfolio holder, I'm exceptionally proud of the work the team are doing and the difference this is making. Children, young people and their families will certainly notice better outcomes. Let's all get involved.

Take a look at our suite of toolkits to find the one to assist with a school travel problem that you may be experiencing."
