Role of the service
The Shropshire Educational Psychology Service (EPS) offers services for Shropshire Council and to schools and other settings for children and young people between the ages 0-25. The Shropshire Educational Psychology Services and Training Brochure 2024/25 gives an overview of the range of work they offer. It is illustrative and doesn’t include all that they can offer so please contact the team for further information and to discuss your requirements.
Educational psychologists have extensive training in psychology and knowledge of child development.
- They assess barriers children may experience to their learning
- They provide advice and training on how schools might help children and young people to learn and develop
- They make recommendations and outcomes, or develop strategies in partnership with schools, to help a child or young person learn more effectively. This may include improvements to learning environments, advice on curriculum materials, teaching approaches, mental health and behaviour support
Educational psychologists also keep up-to-date with best practice, policy and research relating to how children and young people learn, and ensure that this informs local policy and practice.
All of our educational psychologists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and hold up to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates.
Please note that the Shropshire EPS is unable to offer any private assessments and would signpost to the British Psychological Society (BPS) to search for a local private psychologist. Please check that the psychologist is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. We'd encourage parents/carers to discuss any concerns with their child’s headteacher, special educational needs and disabilities co-ordinator (SENDCo) or the Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS), before engaging a private psychology assessment.
