Accessibility guides
We've produced some useful accessibility guides to some of our buildings and facilities to make it easier for young people or parent carers of a child with disabilities to plan a visit.
The guides include libraries, leisure centres, museums and other visitor attractions, and we've produced them in conjunction with AccessAble, who sent their trained surveyors to visit and assess each building.
Young people or parent carers of a child with disabilities can check out the accessibility of places they’re intending to visit before they leave home. Each guide looks at the route they'll use getting in, and what's available inside including doors, lifts, toilets, staff training, lighting levels and background music, and includes facts, figures and photographs.
Each guide contains over 1,000 pieces of information, included because someone with a disability has suggested that it would be useful for them to know it before they visit
Steve Law, head of property and development at Shropshire Council said:
“Ensuring our buildings are accessible to all is hugely important for us and we’re delighted to have worked with AccessAble on this important project.
We know everyone’s accessibility needs are different, which is why having detailed, accurate information is so important.
We want everyone to be able to visit and enjoy all Shropshire Council’s public buildings and these guides will give people confidence in what to expect and help make visits easier and more enjoyable.
People can now be confident that our buildings and facilities are accessible to all, and meet the needs of everyone who wishes to visit and use them.”
