Education/employment
From year 8 children and young people will be preparing to find out more about pathways to employment. Schools and colleges should support young people with personal planning, thinking about aspirations, capabilities, training and qualifications needed, together with current and future support the young person may need. Personal planning may include a transition/action plan, moving on plan, work experience, visits to colleges, providing careers advice, vocational profiling and supporting the young person to start to make decisions for themselves.
Work-based learning is one of the most effective ways for young people to have first-hand experience of work and support their employment aspirations.
There are many pathways towards employment that a college can support a young person to consider, including:
- Vocational training
- Academic training
- Supported internship
- An apprenticeship
