Andy Begley, chief executive

Andy has enjoyed more than 25 years of professional success across both the public and private sector before becoming Chief Executive at Shropshire Council in 2020.

He began his public sector career within learning disabilities and then moved into a variety of roles including Executive Director of People (including Public Health and Housing) and Director of Adult Social Care. He has held the position of National Policy Lead and West Midlands Chair of ADASS (Directors of Adult Social Services) as well as professional advisory roles within the NHS and local government.

Andy has a particular focus on behavioural economics and a track record of progressive organisational leadership. His drive for evidence led change, supporting and investing in staff development and reimagining the role of key services has driven improvements as well as financial benefits for the council and the people it serves

Outside work Andy enjoys rugby, playing the guitar and riding his motorbike in the beautiful Shropshire countryside.
