Becoming a carer in Shared Lives

A Shared Lives carer is a self-employed carer who supports an individual with their care and support needs. They share their home, family, community, and life whilst providing accommodation on a short stay or live-in arrangement.

A Shared Lives Carer supports any person using Shared Lives to live the life they want, be part of the community, stay healthy, feel good, stay safe, and have choices. They treat the person like family and help them to meet their learning needs, wishes, choices and goals.

A person may have learning disabilities, physical disabilities, dementia, mental health issues or other needs that make it hard for them to live alone including those aged 65 years plus.

  • Be willing to provide care and support to a vulnerable adult
  • Complete required training.

As a Shared Lives carer you benefit from:

  • Earning a minimum of £500 per week tax free!
  • Full training and support from Shropshire Council
