HM Coroner's Service
Welcome to the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Coroner's Office
His Majesty's Coroner holds office under the crown and is an independent Judge presiding over a Court of Record. The coroners for our area are:
- HM Senior Coroner John Ellery
- HM Assistant Coroner Heath Westerman
- HM Assistant Coroner Joanne Lees
The role of the coroner is to investigate and record the causes and circumstances of all deaths where the cause is not known, violent or unnatural deaths and any death which happened while the deceased was in lawful custody.
The law states that certain types of deaths must be reported to the coroner and some cases may result in an investigation either with or without an Inquest. The coroner for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin deals with deaths when the body lies within the county of Shropshire.
This website contains information that will help you know what to expect if you come into contact with the Coroner’s Service.
