Celebratory ceremonies

A commitment ceremony is designed for couples who wish to celebrate their relationship and commitment to each other without entering into a legal marriage or civil partnership.

The ceremony gives you the opportunity to make promises to each other if front of your family and friends or it can just be the two of you to publicly declare your life long commitment, love and dedication to each other.

A commitment ceremony has you legal standing

Choosing a venue

If you decide to have your commitment ceremony in Shropshire, there are a number of venues for you to choose from, including;

  • The Paul Ainscough Room at the Shirehall
  • Castle View in Oswestry
  • or at one of our approved venues (link to approved venues)

What happens at a celebratory ceremony?

The ceremony is conducted by one of our Ceremonies Officers from the Shropshire Registration team.  We will conduct a non-religious ceremony that can be personalised by you and can include promises, readings and music. Once you have booked we will send you scripts and ideas to help you put together a bespoke ceremony.

The ceremony can contain the following;

  • introduction and welcome
  • readings or poems
  • declaration to each other
  • exchange of rings
  • closing words
  • signing of the commemorative certificate
