Adult wellbeing

The Adult wellbeing Power BI focuses on adult obesity and physical activity, tobacco control and smoking cessation, alcohol and drugs.

In 2024/25, the proportion of adults in Shropshire who were overweight was slightly lower than in the West Midlands and England, while levels of physical activity were higher. Smoking prevalence in Shropshire has fallen significantly over time, although prevalence remains slightly higher among males than females. Smoking at the time of delivery has also decreased significantly and is now broadly in line with regional and national levels, although remains slightly higher.

Alcohol-related mortality and hospital admissions for broad alcohol-related conditions are lower in Shropshire than in the West Midlands and England. However, successful completion of alcohol treatment is lower, indicating an area for continued focus. Treatment outcomes vary by substance type. Shropshire has a significantly higher rate of successful treatment completion among opiate users, while successful completion among non-opiate users is lower.
