Supporting aspirations
Work experience
At Shropshire Virtual School we offer opportunities for our young people to take part in work experience in the ‘family business’ at Shropshire Council. We have a variety of departments ready and waiting to help, such as:
- Outdoor education
- Theatre
- Housing
- Urban design
- Health
- Libraries or museums
- Social media
...or even with us at the Virtual School.
Dream big!
One of the ways we support our young people with dreaming big for their futures is our project with Aspire and Seeds of Change. Young people can have personalised mentoring to help them grow in confidence and think about what career, training or course they might like to try as their next step.
Find out more about what this looks like on the Seeds of Change website and see what difference this mentoring can make.
If you're interested in finding out more about any of the above please email us at the virtualschool@shropshire.gov.uk.
About Cornovii Homes
Cornovii Homes is Shropshire Council’s wholly owned housing and development company, established in 2019 to meet housing need across the county. Through its development activities, Cornovii Homes is committed to supporting Shropshire communities and delivering social value. One of the company's social value commitments is to support one school for each of its developments.
Cornovii Homes has recently started work on its first housing development site, 'The Frith' in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, which will deliver 33 new homes. Cornovii Homes’ chosen partner for the build of The Frith is Morris Property. On this development, Cornovii Homes is supporting the Virtual School, and has provided a number of videos for you to watch to inspire your future career.
About the Virtual Insights offer
On the Virtual Insight videos webpage, you’ll find a number of Insights videos where people in these roles tell their 'career journey stories' and give advice about how you could follow these pathways and reach career goals!
Alongside the Insight videos, in partnership with the Shropshire Virtual School, Cornovii Homes and Morris Property, you could also access personalised careers insight sessions specifically for young people who access the virtual school. These sessions will increase awareness of a range of jobs and pathways to careers, but also give you an opportunity to ask questions, find out more and develop your knowledge so that you can begin to think about or even plan and manage lifelong career journeys.
How to arrange a careers insights session
Cornovii Homes and Morris Property invite young people who are interested in finding out more about the careers in the insight videos to contact the virtual school. Inform them about the roles you're most interested in and where you want find out more.
Please contact Lorraine Griffiths at Shropshire Virtual School for more information:
- Email: lorraine.griffiths@shropshire.gov.uk
- Call: 01743 250124
A virtual careers insights session will then be arranged, where staff members from Cornovii Homes and Morris Property can give an insight into their job role, skills and training.
