Theory and practice of nurture (three day programme)

Developing nurturing schools where every child can thrive

This three-day programme provides practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of nurture principles and how they can be applied across a whole-school approach. Grounded in research on child development, attachment and relationships, the training explores how nurturing environments can support emotional wellbeing, engagement and achievement for all learners, particularly those experiencing vulnerability or adversity. The programme enables participants to reflect on their current provision, develop practical nurturing strategies and strengthen inclusive practice across their setting.

Participants will:

• Develop a deeper understanding of the six principles of nurture
• Explore the links between attachment, relationships and learning
• Understand how adverse experiences can affect children's development and behaviour
• Develop practical strategies to support emotional regulation, wellbeing and belonging
• Reflect on their current provision and identify opportunities for development
• Build confidence in creating nurturing classrooms and school environments
• Strengthen whole-school approaches to inclusion and emotional wellbeing

Suitable for: Senior leaders, SENCOs, pastoral staff, nurture practitioners, inclusion leads and class teachers.

Boxall Profile Training

Understanding children's social and emotional development

The Boxall Profile is a nationally recognised assessment and planning tool that helps schools understand the social, emotional and behavioural needs of children and young people. This training provides participants with the knowledge and skills to use the Boxall Profile effectively to identify individual strengths and areas for development, supporting targeted interventions and informed planning. The Boxall Profile can be used to measure progress, inform provision and support a graduated response to social, emotional and mental health needs.

Participants will:

• Gain an understanding of the theory underpinning the Boxall Profile
• Learn how to complete and interpret Boxall assessments
• Explore how developmental strands relate to children's behaviour, learning and relationships
• Identify individual strengths and areas of need
• Use Boxall data to inform intervention planning and provision
• Monitor progress over time and evaluate impact
• Consider how Boxall profiling can support inclusion, nurture and reintegration planning. Benefits for schools
