Domestic Abuse Lived Experience Advisory Group

Have you or someone you support experienced domestic or sexual abuse? Your voice matters.

We're committed to ensuring that the voices of people with lived experience of domestic abuse help shape the services and support available across the county.

Kate Connor, our lived experience officer, works with individuals who have experienced domestic abuse and sexual violence, as well as family members, carers and others who have supported someone affected by abuse. As a survivor herself, Kate brings both professional and personal insight to her role, helping to ensure that lived experience is at the heart of service development and improvement.

Kate engages with people across Shropshire to understand their experiences of local services, what has worked well, what could be improved, and what changes are needed to better support victims and survivors.

Get involved

People with lived experience have a vital role to play in helping improve services and influencing positive change. There are a number of ways to get involved, including:

  • Taking part in focus groups and discussions
  • Sharing experiences and ideas for service improvement
  • Supporting the development of training and awareness activities
  • Providing feedback on local services and support
  • Contributing in a way that feels right for you

Participation is entirely voluntary, and involvement can be tailored to suit individual circumstances and preferences. An informal conversation can be arranged to discuss the different ways you can contribute and answer any questions you may have.

If you'd like to share your experiences, ideas or feedback, or find out more about opportunities to get involved, please contact Kate:

The Domestic Abuse Lived Experience Advisory Group welcomes people of all ages, genders, backgrounds and communities. Whether your experience of domestic abuse or sexual violence is direct or indirect, your perspective is valuable and can help shape future services. Any information shared will be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality. Individuals remain in control of what they choose to share, and support can be provided if discussing experiences is difficult.

Together, we can help shape safer, more effective services for people across Shropshire.
