Exciting ongoing work in Oswestry!

Since the completion of the HSHAZ programme in March, which brought a remarkable £2.1m worth of improvements to Oswestry town centre, including the enhancement and reinstatement of 16 shop fronts, the good work has continued!

Oswestry Town Council has launched the innovative 'Bringing Empty Properties to Life' grants programme, ensuring the legacy of the HSHAZ scheme continues to thrive. Meanwhile, we're inviting businesses and the wider community to participate in an eight-week public consultation on the draft Shop Front Design Guide for Oswestry, running from 2 December 2024 to 24 January 2025.

Inspiring design for the future

The draft design guide is a treasure trove for current and future shop owners, architects, and agents. It aims to elevate design standards and support decision-making through the planning system. Packed with practical examples, case studies, and links to valuable resources, this guide is set to inspire and raise the bar for good design.

Produced in collaboration with the Oswestry and District Civic Society, the guide is a product of the Future Oswestry Group partnership, which comprises Shropshire Council, Oswestry Town Council, and the Oswestry BID. This initiative is part of the successful Oswestry High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) scheme with Historic England.

Have your say!

We value the input of businesses and the wider community in Oswestry. Your feedback will help us to finalise the guidance, and formally adopt the design guide in February 2025.
