How the LNRS has been developed
Shropshire Council is the 'responsible authority' appointed to deliver the LNRS for this location, working closely with Telford & Wrekin Council and Natural England who are 'supporting authorities'. In collaboration with the LNRS Steering Group (see below) we've created the draft Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin LNRS. To do this we worked alongside a range of key local stakeholders, including:
- Farmers and landowners
- Environmental and community groups
- Parish and town councils
There has been significant engagement from people across the county via:
- A public survey (summer 2024) that gathered initial thoughts to feed in to the strategy development
- A nature recovery conference with the Shropshire Association of Local Councils for town and parish councils in December 2024
- A series of workshops with landowners and land managers to share initial maps in January 2025
- A series of workshops for anyone interested in nature in the county to comment on draft priorities in January 2025
- Two workshops with council staff from Shropshire Council and Telford and Wrekin Council
- A water-based workshop for specialists working across the county on water-related issues
- Early drafts of the strategy and the priorities have been shared with partners to refine its contents
This collective input has shaped a strategy that reflects both the ecological priorities and the lived realities of the county, helping to make sure the LNRS is grounded in local context, inclusive in its approach and ambitious in its vision for nature recovery. It may not be perfect, but it provides an informed basis for action now.

The LNRS Steering Group is there to support and guide the development of the LNRS. The group is comprised of:
- Shropshire Council (the Responsible Authority)
- Natural England (Supporting Authority)
- Telford and Wrekin Council (Supporting Authority)
- Country Land and Business Association
- Environment Agency
- Forestry Commission
- National Farmers Union
- Shropshire Hills National Landscape
- Shropshire Wildlife Trust
