Work experience at Shropshire Council

Work experience serves as a pivotal stepping stone for anyone looking to further their career or gain further insight into a particular career pathway or aspiration. Work experience at Shropshire Council offers first-hand exposure to professional environments, practical skills, and industry insights. It's an invaluable opportunity to explore new fields, apply existing skills, and acquire new ones, allowing a smoother transition into the workplace.

If you're considering a career with us, work experience could allow you to gain a deeper understanding of job roles, services and departments across the organisation. We deliver over 100 services, so there's a lot to gain from a placement to really define career aspirations and goals.

Work experience can enable you to network with professionals, ask questions, and undertake tasks and projects, all of which will enhance your CV and job interviews with real life experiences, which can make you more competitive in the job market.

Whether you're a student seeking a head start, you're considering a career change, or you're an aspiring professional aiming to stand out, work experience provides a platform for growth, learning, and professional development.

At Shropshire Council we strive to find you a suitable work experience opportunity that is designed to meet your needs. We may not be able to support all requests, but we endeavour to support anyone keen to work in the public sector where we can. Whether you're a student or seeking a new challenge, we want you to consider a career with us, which is why we want you to have the best experience possible.

Work experience opportunities are open to anyone over the age of 14 (year 10 in school) and we offer placements for secondary, college and university students. Some areas of work experience opportunities such as children's or adult social care services may require you to be 18+ and for you to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Services) check.

There are a wide range of experiences you could look into with us, including finance, IT, business and administration, communications, and legal and democratic services, just to name a few!
