Joe Travis
I began working in support and care for young people with autism and learning disabilities in 2010. My older brother also has autism, and my family had been shared based carers for young people with cerebral palsy and autism too. I progressed through my career into working as a team leader, then a manager in residential and supported living services for adults with autism, and learning disabilities. From 2020 to 2022 I was a serving Police Constable for West Mercia Police.
I joined Joint Training in October 2026. My long- term objectives within the care sector were always to work into a position where I could affect positive change for as many vulnerable people as possible, both in the way that they are supported by their care teams, and by healthcare professionals. Initially with Joint Training, I will be delivering Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training, alongside experts with lived experience. I have a great passion in advocating for people with learning disabilities and autism and giving people the platform and the confidence to advocate for themselves. I am also endorsed to deliver mental health first aid for adults.
Outside of work, I am married with 2 young children, and we also have a 19 years old (human years) cat. When you have children, your hobbies tend to become their hobbies, and the best ways that I like to relax are reading books with my children, playing chess with my son, and I can normally be found in various soft plays across the county on most weekends! I also play Sunday league football and run if I can find the time!
