Lewis Dunhill-Pool

I've been a learning and development officer with Shropshire Council since 2020. I've mainly delivered training for our staff in Children’s Services, but as my role has evolved I now enjoy delivering training to wider audiences and stakeholders.

I'm an approved instructor for a variety of accredited courses which include Team Teach, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Skills Training in Risk Management (STORM), The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism, Restorative Approach, Brook Sexual Behaviours Traffic Light Tool and NSPCC Graded Care Profile 2. I also deliver on topics such as safeguarding, trauma, supervision, online safety and learning disability and learning difficulties.

I'm passionate about making training as beneficial and inclusive as possible, and enjoy ensuring that training can be a reflective space where professionals can grow their understanding and awareness in their own and other people’s practice. I also really enjoy adding to my knowledge and understanding, and continuing my professional development, and am always keen to develop new training and courses (time permitting!). My interest in growing my own skills has also led to me recently becoming a qualified coach.

Long ago in my background I gained a degree in marketing, but I soon discovered that what I really wanted to do was help and support people. Prior to joining Shropshire Council, my working background experience was across a range of health and social care settings, primarily in a mental health setting with adolescents, and working with adults with learning disabilities. I have a degree in learning disability nursing and social work, and I'm therefore dual-qualified as a social worker and a learning disability nurse.

Outside of work, I have two young children, so most of my spare time is spent enjoying time with them. I love getting out and about in Shrewsbury, having returned back to the town when I took up this role. I'm also usually listening to a podcast so always welcome any recommendations!
