Aims to: To gain understanding of the different aspects of change through life and the potential implications of trauma for the autistic person – Supporting the Governments “National Strategy for autistic children, young people & adults: 2021 – 2026”
Learning objectives:
- Explore autism, including sensory processing differences and co-occurring conditions
- Consider definitions of trauma
- Discuss childhood, puberty and transition times, including how trauma may affect the individual
- Explore experiential functioning/thinking
- Explore masking, camouflaging and stimming
- Examine strategies for emotional regulation
- Discuss how to support the young person to gain control, enhance resilience and develop coping mechanisms using person centred approaches
