We will then work with you to complete a Training Needs Analysis which will enable us to determine the appropriate level of training for your service. Once this process has been completed you will be able to apply for course places.

CPI Safety Intervention Advanced™ Training - Disengagement & Holding Skills 

This course is recommended for staff working in health and social care supporting individuals who are more likely to demonstrate complex or extreme risk behaviours and whose Training Needs Analysis has established that they require advanced disengagement and holding skills.  Please note that delegates must have completed Foundation training before undertaking this programme.  

The course consists of a full day instructor-led event to include disengagement and holding skills practise.

Programme Objectives

  • Describe the principles of risk assessment and risk reduction and demonstrate how to undertake a behavioural risk assessment.
  • Provide a legal and professional rationale for decision making and give justification for actions made in relation to risk behaviour including the use of physical interventions.
  • Demonstrate the use of physical interventions that are consistent with a set of physiological principles.
  • Describe the warning signs associated with the adverse impact of physical interventions and identify the necessary corrective actions to minimise harm.
  • Define the roles of incident manager/team leader and other team members for team interventions to ensure safety for both staff and person in distress.
  • Assess risk using the Decision-Making Matrix to determine if additional staff are needed during physical interventions.
  • Assist the individual experiencing Tension Reduction to consider alternative, more appropriate behaviours using the IBERA framework

Facilitators:  Accredited Crisis Prevention Institute® trainers

Target: Workers in adult social care, housing, independent and the voluntary sector working with adults who may pose risks to themselves or others.

Please note: It is not appropriate to attend this training after a waking night shift
