Learning objectives:

  • Understand the legal responsibility and statutory requirements for safeguarding children and young people

  • Recognise the signs of abuse when working with complexity

  • Understand the barriers to recognising and reporting abuse or neglect

  • Identify additional risks for children and young people with additional needs

  • Engage in the use of tools to support assessment of complex safeguarding issues

  • Understand the importance of information sharing and escalating concerns

  • Understand the effects of abuse on child development 

  • Understand how to support staff and young people following a safeguarding concern

Audience: Residential Managers, Deputy Managers, Team Managers, Senior Social Workers and those working with children and young people (care settings, not education) who require a higher level of safeguarding training than awareness level.
