Core strategy
The Core Strategy was adopted by the council on 24 February 2011. It sets out the council’s vision, strategic objectives, broad spatial strategy, and strategic policies to guide future development.
Production of the document was informed by a detailed evidence base (including sustainability appraisal and habitats regulations assessment), several stages of consultation, and examination by an inspector appointed by government.
As the Core Strategy pre-dated the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and subsequent updates, a ‘conformity’ assessment was undertaken. This confirms the Core Strategy is in conformity with the NPPF.
