Making a booking

How will I make a booking?

You'll be able to book a slot up to six days in advance of your visit. In many cases you’ll be able to book on the same day. The first bookings can be made from 29 October.

You’ll be able to book online in this section of the website. 15-minute slots will be available for cars. Vans and trailers will be able to book a 30-minute slot on weekdays, or a 60-minute slot at weekends.

You can book:

  • Not less than two hours before the time you wish to visit
  • No more than six days before your visit
  • Two visits at the same time - these could be on the same day or in the same week

How often can I book?

You can make two bookings at a time: this could be on the same day or in the same week (subject to availability). Until those two bookings have taken place, a further booking can't be made.

Vans and trailers will be limited to 12 visits per year, as they are now.

I pay my council tax to Shropshire Council – can I use recycling centres in other areas?

Residents who pay council tax to either Shropshire Council or Telford & Wrekin Council are able to use recycling centres in each other’s areas, but will need to book a slot to visit one of the Shropshire Council’s five centres.

For trailers or larger commercial vehicles:

  • Households under Shropshire Council can only use Shropshire centres
  • Telford and Wrekin households only can apply for and use e-permits at Telford and Wrekin centres OR book to visit a Shropshire Council centre

Residents from other neighbouring council areas aren’t able to visit Shropshire Council's recycling centres.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can use my car to visit an HRC?

If you are a Shropshire resident, no. However you must book  your slots first and can have only book two live slots at a time. Once you have used one you can then book another and so on.

I'm moving house, can I book more than one appointment in a week?

As above, once the two visits have been used further visits can be booked.

How can I book an appointment for a relative or friend?

For each booking the registration number of the vehicle used needs to be the registration number used when booking

I'm not a Shropshire resident but need to clear the home/property of someone who lives in Shropshire (eg a relative who has passed away). Can I do this?

Yes, just book the slots you need using your details. However you'll need to bring proof that the property you're clearing is in Shropshire, eg council tax bill or utility bill.

I’ve booked an appointment, but now can’t make it. Can I change it?

Yes there will be a link via the email confirmation.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

The confirmation you receive will include a link to cancel your booking. As soon as you cancel, the slot will become free for someone else to use.

Can I walk or cycle to the recycling centre?

Yes, but the sites won't accept people parking vehicles outside the site and trying to carry the waste in.

If you intend to visit by bike, complete a booking slot and where the form asks for a car’s registration put ‘bike’ or ‘bicycle’. Then visit your chosen HRC at the allotted time slot - and remember to bring proof of Shropshire residence with you.

I have a larger vehicle or van as my main vehicle – does this restrict the number of times I can visit an HRC?

You’ll be limited to 12 visits in a 12-month period, but if you need more visits please contact our waste team at wastemanagement@shropshire.gov.uk - and further visits may be possible depending on the circumstances.

I don’t have access to the internet – can I still book an appointment?

The quickest way to apply for a HRC slot is via our website. If you have an email address, you can simply go online and complete your application there.

Customers who don't have an email address or are unable to access the internet can still apply by calling our Customer Service Centre on 0345 678 9007 between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.

Please keep in mind that during busy periods you might experience longer wait times.

Can I still use the recycling centre if I have a van or trailer?

Yes, you can still use a van or trailer to visit the recycling centre. Use the online booking system to book a 30-minute slot to dispose of your waste (60 minutes at weekends). This will replace the existing waste permit system. Vans and trailers will continue to be limited to 12 visits per year.

If using a hired vehicle, please provide the vehicle registration prior to booking a slot. If you're unable to do so, please enter ‘Hire Van’ in the vehicle registration field.
