Remembrance poppy displays on highway lamp columns

We recognise the importance of Remembrance Day and the significant role local communities play in commemorating those who have served in the armed forces.

Town and parish councils and other community organisations can apply to install Remembrance poppy displays on Shropshire Council-owned highway lamp columns, subject to approval and the relevant installation and safety requirements.

How to apply

Before installing any poppy displays, you must submit an application through our online application process.

Applications for approved poppy displays will be processed free of charge.

The application process allows us to consider the proposed locations and mounting arrangements to make sure displays don't adversely affect:

  • Highway safety
  • Visibility
  • Street lighting equipment
  • Other highway assets

It also helps us maintain a consistent approach across Shropshire and an appropriate record of approved installations.

Which poppies can be used?

Only official Royal British Legion (RBL) poppy displays should be installed on Shropshire Council-owned lamp columns. This supports a consistent approach across the county, supports the recognised charitable cause and helps maintain the integrity of the national Remembrance campaign.

Official poppy displays can be purchased from the Royal British Legion.

Lamp columns owned by other organisations

If a lamp column is owned by a town or parish council, or another organisation, permission should be obtained directly from the relevant asset owner before installing a display.
