What is the role of SENDIASS?
SENDIASS stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service.
Every local authority must have a SENDIASS service. In Shropshire, it is run by Citizens Advice Shropshire.
We give free, private, and fair help to children, young people, parents, and carers.
We can help at any stage:
- When you first think your child may need extra support
- With SEND meetings, plans, or appeals
- When processes or paperwork feel confusing
We explain clearly:
- What support is available
- Your rights
- What schools and services should do
How we can help
We provide clear, up-to-date advice about education, health, and social care.
We can help you to:
- Find local and national support services
- Prepare for meetings with schools or professionals
- Understand forms, reports, and SEND paperwork
- Make sense of SEND processes and jargon
- Help young people share their views and understand their rights
Support for young people
If you are a young person, our youth worker, Lynne, can help. She works directly with young people and can support worries or problems at school or college. Lynne works one day each week, so please allow some time for a reply.
