Get involved
Supporting young carers in Shropshire is a community effort, and there are lots of meaningful ways that individuals, groups, and organisations can help make a difference. Whether you’re raising awareness, donating resources, or offering opportunities, your involvement helps us reach more children and young people who may be quietly carrying a lot at home.
Every bit of support, big or small, helps us continue creating safe, fun and supportive spaces for young carers across Shropshire.
Help us raise awareness
One of the most valuable ways to support young carers is by helping others understand who they are and what they do. Many children don’t even realise that they're young carers, and many families don’t know that support is available, so spreading the word is incredibly important.
We're always happy to visit local community groups, including:
- Rotary Clubs
- Women’s Institute groups
- Faith groups and community organisations
- Business networks
Our team can deliver talks, presentations, or informal chats to help people learn more about young carers, the challenges they may face, and how our service can support them. Sometimes all it takes is one conversation for a hidden young carer to be recognised.
Donations and practical support
We're always extremely grateful for donations that help bring joy, creativity and fun to our groups. Items that are especially helpful include:
- Arts and craft supplies
- Board games and puzzles
- Activity kits
- Sports equipment
- Snacks and refreshments for group sessions
These contributions make a huge difference to the quality of our sessions, and help ensure that every young carer has the chance to take part, relax, and enjoy themselves.
Donations can support monthly groups, holiday activities, and one-off events, all of which give young carers valuable time away from their caring responsibilities.
Community partnerships
If your organisation, business, or group would like to partner with us, whether that’s through fundraising, providing a venue, offering experiences for young carers, or supporting events, we'd love to hear from you.
Together, we can create more opportunities for children and young people who rarely put themselves first.
You can make a real difference
Every conversation, every donation, and every offer of support helps us to reach more young carers who may otherwise stay hidden.
If you'd like to get involved, offer support, or find out more about how your community group can help, please email us at youngcarers@shropshire.gov.uk
We truly appreciate the support from our community; it helps us show young carers that they're seen, valued, and never alone.
