What is the AW&EE team?

AW&EE stands for Affordable Warmth & Energy Efficiency. AW&EE are an award-winning team within Shropshire Council, focused on delivering the our Sustainable Affordable Warmth Strategy.

The team’s current goal is, through whatever means available to us, to address the twin crises of fuel poverty & the climate emergency.

It's expected that this will primarily be achieved through the ‘retrofit’ of housing across the county – bringing as many homes as possible up to modern energy efficiency standards and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Updates from the AW&EE team

What does AW&EE do?

We maintain an Advice Hub on domestic retrofit, energy bills, heating systems, and how to apply for grants to retrofit your home.

Under the Sustainable Warmth Shropshire programme, we deliver or support a number of local and national grant schemes:

  • The Warm Homes: Local Grant, offering fully funded retrofit measures to improve your home’s energy efficiency
  • The Heatsavers scheme, offering free servicing, repair and replacement of boilers for households with low income & savings
  • The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, a voucher scheme that offers homeowners up to £7,500 towards upgrading their existing boiler to a new Air Source Heat Pump system

We support households with energy debt or unsustainable energy bills.

Legacy – The ECO4 scheme

Whilst applications to the ECO4 scheme have been closed, with the winding down of the scheme nationally, Shropshire Council maintains it’s Statement of Intent (SOI) for ECO4, for the purposes of legacy/ongoing cases.
