Sustainable Warmth Shropshire Programme

Advice and support with reducing your energy bills

The Sustainable Warmth Shropshire programme is a long-standing grant programme run by us, via a number of national government grant schemes.

This programme is designed to help residents reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions by funding improvements to their home such as new/improved insulation, ventilation and glazing upgrades/repairs as well as installing new, highly efficient low-carbon heating systems such as Air Source Heat Pumps.

The most recent scheme available is the Warm Homes Local Grant, which is for homes between council tax bands A-D, that are below an EPC score of C.

The Warm Homes Plan

The Government recently published it’s Warm Homes Plan. It's our intent to deliver this plan as best we can, however many of the suggested schemes in the plan are not ready to go / available to the council or residents yet.

As and when new schemes or delivery mechanisms become available, we will update this page..

Eligibility for the Warm Homes: Local Grant

There are a number of factors that are considered for applicants to the grant. Links to these policy documents can be found below, and your home/household will need to meet all of them, however broadly eligibility for the scheme falls under one of three qualifying ‘routes’, which you should expect to evidence as part of your application to the scheme.

If you contact our team with some basic information about your circumstances and needs, we are happy to help assess whether you might be suitable for the scheme in the first instance, ahead completing a formal application if you would like.

Apply for the scheme

Qualifying Route 1 – Eligible Postcode

Households living in a postcode that falls within the bottom two deciles of the Index of Multiple Deprivation, as well as meeting other scheme requirements such as the savings limit, EPC limit and Council Tax band limit are eligible for the scheme. You can check for your postcode on the list provided by DESNZ.

Qualifying Route 2 – Income Proxy

Households in receipt of one of the following means tested benefits qualify for the scheme, provided they still meet other scheme requirements such as the savings limit, EPC limit and Council Tax band limit:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit (Savings and guarentee)
  • Universal Credit

Qualifying Route 3 – Household Income

A household with gross annual income below the scheme’s £36,000 limit qualifies for the scheme, provided they still meet other scheme requirements such as the savings limit, EPC limit and Council Tax band limit.

There is also allowance for larger households, where their net income after housing costs (Mortgage/Rent only) falls below the relevant figure on the table below.
