Suicide Prevention in our Communities

On completion of this training you will be invited to join the Orange Button Community Scheme. This is a way of identifying people that have undertaken suicide prevention training. Wearing the button says you have the confidence to talk to others about suicide, making you a visible and approachable point of contact.

Funding: This training is funded by Shropshire Suicide Prevention Action Group (SPAG).

Please see (Audience) below to see if it can apply to your role. SPAG wish to support individuals and teams to have access to the Suicide Prevention in our Communities training.

Audience: Orange button new recruits that have that have not completed suicide prevention training previously and services/teams/individuals with reach to higher risk communities looking to become suicide aware but cannot attend a full day Suicide First Aid: Understanding Suicide Intervention session will be considered.

Telford specific agencies should contact Telford & Wrekin Council to access their training options.

Aim: To build awareness in preventing suicide in our communities

Learning objectives:

• Make suicide prevention everybody's business
• Explore and challenge the myths and stigma surrounding suicide
• Raise awareness of spotting the signs – consideration of risk factors and high-risk groups
• Explore and build confidence in having a conversation about suicide with someone who you are concerned about. (Utilising the Zero Suicide Alliance’s approach, ‘see, say & signpost’)
• Consider safety planning and know what help is available
• Practice self-care.
