Aims to: Enhance learners' understanding of learning disabilities and autism, best practices in health and social care settings, and how this is supported by current legislation.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the lives and experiences of people with a learning disability and recognise their strengths and contributions
- Explore factors which impact on the quality of care and support of people with a learning disability
- Understand the key findings from the Learning from Lives and Deaths reviews(LeDeR)
- Understand why autism is described as an invisible condition
- Recognise potential differences, strengths and challenges and possible triggers for anxiety for autistic people
- Know what reasonable adjustments are and how to make them
- Be familiar with legislation and resources for inclusive enabling services
Audience: The training is suitable for all staff members of registered health and adult social care services who may be involved in providing care and support for adults with learning disabilities or autism.

Course pre-requisite: All learners must have completed the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training eLearning. Please refer to Pre course learner information for full details of how to access this and additional pre-course information.
Facilitators: National Health Service England (NHSE) approved facilitating trainers, co-trainers with a living disability, and autistic co-trainers.
Cost: £95.00 per learner for all applicants.
This charge applies to learners from Shropshire T&W Integrated Care Board, GP Practices and Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust.
