Enforcement

All of the schemes are enforced using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) CCTV cameras positioned at the entry and exit points of the zone, with the exception of Coleham Primary School in Shrewsbury. This one is a manned restriction enforced by the school, therefore, penalty charge notices aren't applicable to Coleham Primary School's school street zone.

Entering a school street zone during the times of prohibition is an offence under the Traffic Management Act 2004 and may incur a penalty charge notice (PCN) if a vehicle hasn't been granted an exemption permit. The cost of the PCN will be £70, which will be reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days. It should be noted however that anyone is allowed to leave the school street area during camera operational times.

School streets are enforced only during term times, with cameras being operational during the morning and afternoon school run times. Outside of these periods no permits are required to enter the area.
