Workplace health checks
Shropshire Council received funding to deliver cardiovascular disease (CVD) health checks in workplaces across the county as part of a government-supported pilot programme. In partnership with local Shropshire businesses, the Public Health’s Community Wellbeing Outreach Team provided these workplace health checks to identify individuals at increased risk of various diseases. The aim was to enable early intervention, access to appropriate treatment, or the adoption of preventative measures.
The pilot also sought to gather valuable evidence on the feasibility and impact of workplace CVD checks while encouraging employers to support employees in maintaining their health and wellbeing at work.
A total of 963 checks were completed, demonstrating strong partnership working and effective engagement with the local community and health services. The team built strong relationships through initiatives like the place-based Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), which helped tailor services to community needs. There was also interest in expanding collaborations, such as establishing a Cancer Champion Wellbeing Board, with directors and managers actively engaging to access and promote the service.
