Shropshire Council provides an opt-in, paid garden waste collection service for domestic properties. These terms and conditions outline the rules and responsibilities for subscribers.

Service description

The subscription year runs from 1 November to 31 October. Collections are fortnightly throughout the year. Garden waste must be presented in the council-issued bin with a valid permit sticker attached to the bin.

Subscription and payment

  • Annual fee: £56 per bin (non-refundable and may be subject to increase)
  • Payment methods: online or by phone using debit/credit card
  • No pro-rated charges: full annual fee applies regardless of when you subscribe
  • No direct debit or cheques: payments must be made in full at the time of subscription
  • Permit: issued upon payment and must be displayed on the bin
  • Permit stickers may take up to 12 days to be received from payment date

Cancellation and refunds

Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time, but no refunds will be issued for any remaining period. The council reserves the right to cancel the service without notice in cases of misuse or non-compliance. Subscriptions can be transferred to another address in Shropshire if moving house and the service is available at the new address.

Adverse weather protocol

In severe weather (eg snow, ice, flooding) collections may be suspended without notice for safety reasons. If a scheduled collection is missed due to adverse weather, residents should return their bin to their property and present it on the next scheduled collection day. No refunds will be provided for missed collections due to adverse weather.

Customer responsibilities

Shropshire Council will not collect waste other than that contained within a closed wheeled bin or approved sack. All waste must be placed within containers, and the lid of wheeled bins must be closed for the safety of our operatives.

The weight of rubbish contained in the wheeled bin must not exceed the refuse vehicle’s lifting capabilities. The vehicles have sensors on the lifts, and if the waste contained within the container exceeds safe operating (maximum 90KG) the waste will not be taken.

Collections will be made from 7am. Shropshire Council will notify the normal collection day to the resident but reserves the right to vary the collection when or if required.

Contaminated waste containers will not be collected.

Containers will be collected from the premises at the agreed collection point.

Missed collections must be reported within 48 hours of the collection day by calling 0345 6789 007 or by email to customerfirst@shropshire.gov.uk

Council responsibilities

Provide scheduled collections except during adverse weather or other exceptional circumstances. Communicate service updates via the council website and customer service channels.
