Park and ride - Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury park and ride provides a direct express bus route into central Shrewsbury from three free car parks conveniently located on the outskirts of the town.
For whatever reason you’re heading into town, parking has never been easier than with Shrewsbury park and ride. Buses are fully accessible with a low floor, and space for buggies and wheelchairs onboard.
So whether you’re going for work, enjoying a day at the shops, having lunch with friends or exploring Shrewsbury’s unique cobbled streets and historic architecture, park and ride is the best way into Shrewsbury, hassle free.
Operating days and times
Buses operate every 20 minutes throughout the day, Monday to Saturday. There's no service on bank holidays.
Buses leaves each site from 7:20am until 6:20pm. The last bus back from the town centre is at 6:30pm.
Please note the first bus on a Saturday departs from the park and ride sites at 8am.
Fares
From Monday 5 August 2024 until Monday 31 March 2025 a standard return fare is only £1 per person. This includes all day parking at the sites for free.
- Accompanied children under 16 years – FREE (children under the age of 16 aren't allowed to travel unaccompanied by an adult on any of the park and ride services)
- Lost ticket fee - £1
- Season tickets* - pay on the bus to give you unlimited travel between the car park and the town centre - £8 per week, £30 per month
- Contactless payment is available on all park and ride buses
*Please note that all season tickets are only valid when parking a vehicle at the designated park and ride sites.
Meole Brace
This site is located just south of Meole Brace Retail Park. From Dobbie’s Roundabout, head north on Hereford Road towards Shrewsbury town centre. The entrance is at the first set of traffic lights, turning right on to the Bellway Housing Estate ‘Darwin’s Edge’. Once you've turned right at the traffic lights, follow the road to the right where you'll find the entrance to the Meole Brace site. Please note that previously the entrance to Meole Brace park and ride was from Meole Brace Retail Park, near Pets at Home. This road is no longer available due to housing developments in the area.
Oxon
This site is located behind the Bicton Heath Co-operative and Greggs. From the Shrewsbury bypass, turn on to the Welshpool Road following the signs for Oxon Park & Ride, turn left at the junction directly after the traffic lights outside the Co-op and continue towards the signed park and ride car park. The nearest postcode to the Oxon site is SY3 5AD (Bicton Heath Retail Park, Shrewsbury).
Harlescott
This site is located next to the Tesco Extra store at Battlefield. Travelling from the Battlefield roundabout, take the exit towards Shrewsbury town centre. Continue along the A5112 until you reach a crossroads. Turn right at the crossroads and continue towards the mini roundabout. Take the second exit towards the signed park and ride site. The nearest postcode to the Harlescott site is SY1 4HA (Tesco Extra, Shrewsbury).
Car park information
- There is no charge to park your vehicle at any of the park and ride sites. Instead you will be charged per person using the Park & Ride service and will need to purchase tickets on the bus.
- All sites have some limited CCTV available. Please be advised that you park your vehicle at your own risk. Shropshire Council or any of its subsidiaries cannot be held accountable for any damage your vehicle may incur.
- Oxon and Meole Brace car parks are closed and locked after the arrival of the last bus from the town centre at approximately 6:40pm.
- Please note that on Sundays and bank/public holidays these car parks are closed.
- Overnight parking isn't permitted. The site is locked by the bus operator and any vehicles left in the car park as the last bus leaves may find themselves locked in. If you're locked in you'll need to call us on 0345 678 9006 to ask a contractor to release your vehicle, in which case you'll be liable to pay the cash-only £60 call out/lock in charge.
- Cycle parking is available at Meole Brace and Oxon sites.
- Motorhomes are welcome, however, the height barriers will prevent you from entering initially. Please seek assistance from an Arriva member of staff in opening the barrier and directing you to the best place to park. The driver rest room is located in front of the main shelters at each site. If a member of staff is not present at the rest room you will need to await their return.
- Users of the car park not using the service aren't permitted to park at this location without permission.

About the bus
All buses have special low-floor access at the front, and are ideal for parents with pushchairs and people who are less mobile. Buses also have a ramp to enable access for wheelchair users.
Route description
The service stops at the following locations in Shrewsbury town centre:
- Railway station (currently suspended due to ongoing improvement works around the railway station gyratory)
- Castle Street (the bus shelter outside ‘Dutch Living’ is for the Oxon and Harlescott services and the bus shelter outside ‘Toni & Guy’ is for Meole Brace)
- Dogpole
- High Street (The Square)
- Shoplatch (Market Hall)
- Barker Street (Rowley’s House)
- Old Potts Way (Meole Brace only – outside Asda is the shelter for the return journey)
- Frankwell (Oxon only)

Routes may be disrupted at times due to road closures or events - information will be supplied at bus shelters if relevant.
On Saturdays between 10am and 4pm all park and ride services will be unable to serve stops along High Street, Shoplatch and Barker Street due to pedestrianisation in this area. The nearest stops will be along Castle Street and Dogpole.
Dogs
Passenger assistance dogs, such as guide and hearing dogs, will be carried free at all times.
Other animals that aren't considered a danger or nuisance to other passengers will be carried free at the driver’s discretion. The passenger taking the animal on the bus will be responsible for any damage, loss or injury arising from its presence. The animal must not travel on the seats.
