Infant, primary and junior admissions criteria for Shropshire Council schools

Please note: this is the oversubscription criteria for community and controlled schools that  are maintained by Shropshire Council. The attached feeder and school type list shows if the state-funded primary schools are community, controlled or academy.

All academies, free schools, aided and foundation schools are an admissions authority in their own right and determine their own admission arrangements, not Shropshire Council.

Priority 1

'Looked-after children' or children who were previously ‘looked after’ but immediately after being ‘looked after’ became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order, including those who appear to Shropshire Council to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.

Priority 2

Very exceptionally, a child who has a particular health reason requiring them to attend a specific school. This will only be allowed if parents/carers can provide medical evidence that in the view of the local authority attending that particular school is essential to the medical wellbeing of their child. We reserve the right to check the relevance of the medical condition.

Priority 3

Children living within the catchment area. Firstly to children who will have an older sibling at the school on the day they're due to start there, and then to other children who live in the catchment area. You can find out which catchment area you live in by searching for your postcode on our mapping system and selecting 'Primary catchment areas' from the 'map layers' menu on the left hand side.

Priority 4

Children living outside the catchment area. Any places left will be offered firstly to children who will have an older sibling at the school on the day they're due to start there. Secondly, to other children who live outside the catchment area.

If in any of the above groups there are more applications than places available, priority will be based on distance. This will be measured as a straight line, from home to school on a computerised mapping system. The shortest distance being given priority.
