Aims to: Improve responses to the needs of adults with swallowing difficulties
Learning objectives:
- Understand what Dysphagia is and how it occurs
- Be aware of the signs and symptoms of Dysphagia
- Be aware of problems caused by Dysphagia
- Understand our relationship with food and how that can impact individuals when modifying diets.
- Promote safer eating and drinking for individuals
- Explore the IDDSI Levels of texture and fluid modification (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative)
- Know when and how to refer for a swallowing assessment
- Understand the Speech and Language Therapist’s (SALT) role
- Understand alternative feeding.
