Libraries Autism-friendly libraries and neurodiversity collection
Neurodiversity collection and sensory bags
Collections of titles to support neurodivergent individuals and their families are available at eight libraries. Titles can be requested for free for collection at all other Shropshire library branches with a concessionary ticket. To find out if you're entitled to a concessionary ticket check our website or ask at your local library. For a full list of titles see the Shropshire Libraries’ Neurodiversity Collection Booklist.
Each library also has a sensory bag containing some noise-cancelling headphones and a small variety of fidget toys for use in the library. Please ask a member of staff if you'd like to use it.
Autism-friendly
Shropshire Libraries are now autism-friendly spaces. Staff have undertaken autism awareness training and we've developed a social story for each branch to ease the library journey for autistic people.
The Autism Friendly Libraries training film has helped to raise staff awareness of autism-friendly approaches, and we've made a few simple adjustments which we hope will make our libraries much more inclusive.
